Accreditation Process

The European Board of Accreditation (EBA) follows a structured, rigorous, and transparent accreditation process designed to ensure that only institutions committed to excellence and continuous improvement are recognized. Our process evaluates an institution’s quality, governance, academic or service standards, and overall effectiveness.

Below is an overview of the six key stages in the EBA accreditation journey:

1. Initial Application

Institutions begin the process by submitting a formal application form. This includes essential information regarding the institution’s:

  • Legal registration
  • Governance structure
  • Offered programs and services
  • Operational model

The EBA team conducts an initial screening to verify whether the applicant meets the basic eligibility criteria to move forward in the accreditation process.

2. Self-Assessment

Once accepted into the process, the institution is required to complete a comprehensive self-assessment based on EBA’s accreditation standards. This self-evaluation allows institutions to:

  • Reflect on their strengths and identify areas for improvement
  • Align their operations with internationally accepted quality benchmarks
  • Prepare for the external review process

3. Document Submission

The institution must provide detailed supporting documentation as evidence of compliance with EBA standards. These documents typically include:

  • Legal registration certificates
  • Organizational structure and governance policies
  • Academic or training curricula
  • Quality assurance and assessment procedures
  • Institutional performance and evaluation reports

These materials are thoroughly reviewed by EBA evaluators for authenticity and alignment with the self-assessment findings.

4. Facility Visit & Evaluation

A qualified EBA-accredited evaluator conducts an on-site or virtual facility visit to assess the institution in a real-world context. The visit includes:

  • Interviews with key personnel, faculty, students, and stakeholders
  • Review of infrastructure, learning environments, and administrative processes
  • Validation of submitted documentation and practices

This stage ensures that what is reported in documents reflects the actual operations and culture of the institution.

5. Review & Accreditation Decision

The evaluation report, along with the self-assessment and all submitted documentation, is presented to the EBA Accreditation Committee for final review. The committee:

  • Analyzes compliance with each accreditation standard
  • Evaluates the institution’s readiness and commitment to quality
  • Makes a formal decision regarding accreditation status

Institutions that meet or exceed EBA’s standards receive a formal certificate of accreditation.

6. Continuous Monitoring & Renewal

Accreditation is not a one-time achievement. Accredited institutions must engage in ongoing quality assurance through:

  • Regular submission of performance and compliance reports
  • Periodic re-evaluation or site visits
  • Demonstration of continuous improvement initiatives

This ensures that accredited institutions uphold EBA’s standards consistently and remain aligned with evolving best practices.
